I opted to view the Underwater waterfall by seaplane with Lagoon Flight. This illusion can only be observed from above either by helicopter or seaplane. This illusion is caused by the moving sand and silt sediments which resembles water flowing downwards, like a waterfall. It’s an optical illusion that looks like an underwater waterfall from the sky. Just off the coast of Le Morne, the underwater waterfall can be found. I bought a fish vindaye baguette from one of the local food vendors and then took a long nap on the beach. It’s the perfect place to rest after a hike up Le Morne. You will be mesmerized by the grandeur of this location, especially in the late afternoon and evening when the sunsets are spectacular. The view of the mountain elevates the surrounding scenery. There is nothing quite like the seawater here, and the sand is fine and unrivaled in its pure whiteness. It has to be one of the best beaches in Mauritius. The beach at Le Morne is a universe unto itself, with its own magnificent landscape. A hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks are a must, anything else would just be extra weight and will slow you down. The trail is in direct sunlight, so it’s best to do the hike first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon. I would not recommend this hike to anyone with a fear of heights. I really suffered on this hike as Le Morne is extremely steep and requires strong thighs and quite a bit of scrambling. To say that I found this hike physically demanding would be an understatement. It’s best to go up the mountain with a guide who will explain in detail the history of Le Morne and point out various plants and endemic trees. ![]() Nature and history enthusiasts should surely take advantage of the impressive 7km trail (3.5km one way) in Le Morne Brabant. After extensive consideration, the site was officially reopened to the public in 2016. In 2008, Le Morne Brabant was closed to the public due to its inclusion on the World Heritage List. It is inextricably linked to universal principles of individual liberty and resistance to injustice. Le Morne has become a symbol of the enslaved people’s struggle for freedom, suffering, and sacrifice. The Maroons established small colonies in the caves and on the summit of Le Morne, which was protected by the mountain’s isolated, forested, and practically impenetrable cliffs. Le Morne mountain was used as a refuge for runaway slaves and Maroons seeking safety during the 18th and early 19th centuries.
